You’re sitting alone in a room with her, the air around the two of you thick with tension. This wasn’t how things were supposed to go between you; things were supposed to work. You’ve never even known somebody like her. Probably considering she was an alien, but still, the fact is there — there is no other girl like Terezi Pyrope.

"I don’t want to lose you," you whisper, letting your mask slip away. You figure if it keeps her around, you’ll do basically anything. Even if it’s something you’re uncomfortable with. You just hope it’s not too late.

"I know," she looks down at her feet. "I didn’t want to lose you, either, Dave." Her words are heavy and sad, and you just want to rush across the room and hold her in your arms. You want to kiss her hair and tell her things will be okay. You want to do all the things you were too stupid to do when you had her. Now you’re losing her and you might never get to do these things again, and you don’t know if you’re ready for that.

"You don’t have to do this, Rez," your words sound flat and half hearted. You know she’s going to no matter what you say, but you feel like you should say them anyway. "This entire situation seems so wrong."

She gives you a tiny smile, from under her dragon cape. “I know,” she repeats herself. “I really thought,” she begins, but cuts herself off.

After a few moments of silence, you question her. “You really thought what?” You words are soft and your Texan drawl thick. You feel so awkward being so open with someone. Especially one that’s currentlypossibly breaking up with you.

She shakes her head, and you don’t bother following through. You can imagine what she would say and it wouldn’t make this situation any easier on either of you.

"You really don’t have to do this," you say, with more conviction this time. You realize that this is probably it, and that thought scares you more than anything right now. "Please, Terezi, don’t do this. Not yet."

She sighs, and refuses to look you in the eye. “You were right about me, Dave, I’m a terrible person. I have to do this, you know that.”

She doesn’t have to do this and the both of you know this, but you realize there is no point in fighting this. She’s going to do this whether you want her to or not. “Okay,” you agree, and she finally looks at you, her eyes no longer the red that you empathized with. “But we’re going to get together again someday soon. I’m not gonna let you go forever,” you almost wince at how pathetic you sound. It’s now or never, you figure, and there’s a first time for everything.

She smiles at this, and you attempt a smile back. “I think that can be arranged.”

"I was wrong about you, TZ, you’re wrong about you," you whipser, but by the time you manage the words she’s too far away to hear.
